Throwing Spaghetti

Writer's picture: Golden InkGolden Ink

Dear Readers,

Don't be confused by the title! I don't mean to actually throw spaghetti at a wall, but you can of course do this if you would like to!

The spaghetti is a metaphor for a great writing exercise that you can do very quicly to help you find ideas or to help you write something. All you have to do is throw spaghetti at the wall for 1 to 5 minutes, and see what sticks. In terms of writing, you write down everything that you can think of for 1 to 5 minutes around any starting concept or word. After you do this once or twice, you can see which ideas and phrases you like or dislike. You can use something you wrote down in your next poem or other piece of writing.

Day Forty Nine's Progress:

Today I decided that I like the poem about my thoughts much better. Nevertheless, I am still going to work on both poems instead of just the second one. I think that the poem about mistakes needs more work than the other one, but that doesn't mean that I won't work on it. I am going to work on both poems today and tomorrow. This way, I finish two poems this week instead of one! I started editing the second poem today. There wasn't much to edit but I changed some of the punctuation and the last phrase of the poem too. Let me know which poem you liked better!

Let me know if you actually end up throwing spaghetti at your wall! I am curious to know how many of you are going to do it.
