Surrounded by Sugar

Writer's picture: Golden InkGolden Ink

Dear Readers,

Happy Holidays! This year has gone by so quickly, but everyone says that every year. I was admiring desserts for a special dinner today and couldn't help but write a poem about my one and true love: sugar! I'm still thinking about a title, but here is the poem:

Surrounded by Sugar

I long to wake up

And breathe your delicious scent,

The aroma trail leading me to your

Hideouts in the kitchen

Or waiting for me to pull you out of the pantry.

Your shapeshifting abilities

from shiny white icing

to brown crunchy bites, or

caramelized spikes of pure sweetness

How do you manage to juggle

Your numerous masks?

Do you ever get tired?

I notice

your growing eye bags/dark circles

in the crevices of your baked self

The darker-than-usual bronze and brown

slowly tricking me into thinking you're burnt.

I know you're hiding

or a greedy hand has taken you and hidden you...

But mark my words, I will find you

And swallow you

in one bite.

I hope you liked it!
