Summing it Up: Part One

Writer's picture: Golden InkGolden Ink

Dear Readers,

You made it through Monday! Today I wanted to sum up all of the suggestions and tips I have written about on how to find inspiration. Normally, I make summaries for the writer's block suggestions, but why not do it for the Tuesday blog posts too! Here are all of the suggestions I have given starting from the first Tuesday Blog Post.

  1. Read more poetry books! Poets that I like are Billy Collins, Sylvia Plath, Rumi, Pablo Neruda and many more... + Also try to use the title of any poem and write something around that same concept.

  2. If you like to write down poem ideas but sometimes never get to them, then I have the perfect solution for you! Take some time to look back through your notebooks and find those ideas that you never finished. Then you just work on that poem like any other. I find this very helpful so that I don't waste any of my good ideas.

  3. Write about experiences. Experiences that you've had, good and bad, and experiences that you would like to have. This will surely spark some inspiration when you begin writing.

  4. The next suggestion is something very simple but very helpful at the same time. Try to change the time when you sit down to write (or stand up). If you enjoy writing in the morning then try writing in the evening or afternoon. If you have a lack of inspiration, try breaking the normal routine and do something different.

  5. Write poems inspired from art and photography. This is called "Ekphrastic Poetry". When I cannot find any inspiration, this is my go-to exercise. I love looking at beautiful photographs and writing about them.

  6. Take a walk around your neighborhood or look at pictures of different environments. This will help since you can't exactly travel right now. I love looking at different landscapes and I find that it really helps me find ideas.

  7. Read, read, read. I know I have written this before, but reading really helps you in terms of everything!

  8. Looking at art or making art. Either of these if very good since you are doing something else for a change. It is different but it is still in the same category of art.

  9. Surround yourself with nature. Nature is the best way to find inspiration. Wether it is going in your backyard, looking outside, or taking a small walk, nature is definitely your best friend.

  10. Last but not least, try and look at things from a different perspective. Instead of perceiving everything in the same manner, look at things from a different set of eyes.

I hope you start writing more with the help of these suggestions!
