Finishing a First Draft

Writer's picture: Golden InkGolden Ink

Dear Readers,

Happy Monday!

Today’s Progress:

Today I finished the first draft of my poem about pens! I worked on it a little bit over the weekend as well. I am debating if I should add a stanza about different types nibs that pens have, and will hopefully make a decision by tomorow. For the rest of the week, I plan on editing and making some minor changes to punctuation, phrasing, and word choice. As I was writing this poem, I came across a page in my notebook where I had started a poem about shoes but never finished it. After I finish this pen poem, I will continue working on the shoe poem that I had started a long time ago. This is what I have written so far:

A collection like no other,

Always bunched up in a case

Until comes/ they get their moment to shine.

Handpicked by

Authors, to write their newest mystery,

Bakers — to create delicious recipes,

Poets, to capture special moments in life,

But really,

Anyone who wants to make a difference

With their words.

Some are long,

Others are short,

Many different widths

To suit your grip,

Some come with designs;

And others light up the room

With bright colors,

But most importantly,

They each come blank,

Like a paper with no life,

And its up to you

To leave your finger print

With every pen you touch/hold.

Let me know what you think!
