Distance over Time - Traffic Jam

Dear Readers,

Happy Friday!

This Week’s Progress:

I have not published in a long time, but, I will start publishing more regularly now that I have established a fixed routine. This week I wrote a poem about an unexpected traffic jam we encountered while driving to school. There is a lot of room to improve and edit the poem, but it is almost completed. Normally, my poems aren't very humors, but, I decided to try something new and I attempted making this poem have some humor and wit to it. Here it is:

Distance Over Time

7 miles per hour.

Speed

equals

distance

over

time.

A girl combing her hair,

Someone texting on their phone,

Probably not something

They should be doing.

I see, through a black tinted window,

a woman singing freely,

Singing her heart out.

Only, with her eyes closed,

Not the best decision.

I picture a scream from the teenager trying to fix her makeup

Where did I drop my eyeliner!

Is what she would say—

The words she would spit frustratedly

Out of her mouth.

7 miles per hour

Is reading the package number

On an open back truck

A truck filled with packages of cotton?

Could also be comforting comforters.

Although,

Comforters are not as comforting as we considerate them.

7 miles per hour

Is the longing for a taco

Right when you've seen a taco truck pass by

It's being a part of the community

Of kids who took the same freeway as you

and are now late, just like you,

7 miles per hour

Is starting school 30 minutes late,

an excuse for not getting ready on time in the morning

It's not the just the stop and go speed

The frustrated looks of all the red lights on cars

Or the backed up lanes,

It's realizing that this morning's accident

Was no accident

It's realizing

That accidents are not always accidental.

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

The accident was terrible for the unfortunate four cars,

But the rest of the people got the reward...

Of 7 miles per hour.

That's what 7 miles per hour is,

Not a speed,

But a lively lifestyle.

I hope you enjoyed it!
